at 20.5m (67ft).
Provisional Licence
Up to three months before your 17th birthday you can apply for your first provisional driving licence.
To obtain a provisional driving licence you will need to complete two application forms from the
Post Office, a form D1 and a form D750 (the new photolicence application).
You will need to be in possession of your provisional driving licence before you can take any driving lessons,
although you will be able to book your lessons at any time.
Practice
Professional instruction is recommended to learn to drive, but you can also practise in another car if:
You are accompanied by someone who is at least 21 years of age.
They have held a full UK driving licence for at least three years.
You display ‘L’ plates at the front and back of the car.
You have insurance cover to drive the car.
